Council of State gives government until July 15 to take decision regarding fairs and shows

Febelux, the professional association for the live communication industry (exhibition hall operators, trade fair organizers and subcontractors) has launched several proceedings against the Belgian government in order to obtain a date for the restart of trade fairs, shows and congresses.

Today, the Council of State has given the Belgian State until July 15 to give the trade fair organisers a clear perspective. As the Brussels Court of First Instance will also address the matter on 16 July, the sector hopes that the government will seize this ultimate opportunity to give fairs and congresses a concrete date to restart in a safe and reliable way..

The lack of a date for a possible restart is difficult to understand, according to the industry: on the exhibition and conference floor, security measures can be implemented much more strictly and clearly than in shopping centers, in terms of setting a very similar environment. To prevent the spread of Covid-19 on the exhibition floor, the sector has developed a protocol that demonstrates that due to the large size of the permanent infrastructure where fairs in Belgium usually take place (think Flanders Expo, Kortrijk Xpo and Brussels Expo at the Heysel ) one and a half meters can be perfectly guaranteed.
